About me

By day I am a science teacher, looking after young teenagers and trying to teach them all I can about the world around them. It's incredibly emotionally demanding but I love (almost) every second. In my free time, I love to spend afternoons in my kitchen with my husband (who you may know as Fatboy!), or on little projects, such as getting to grips with my sewing machine, arranging flowers, cooking, or generally just using my hands to make things. I find nature and natural forms incredibly therapeutic, and I am inspired by my love of science and nature in every aspect of my life. A lot of the time, I'm making things up as I go along, but often that's what makes life so fun! I hope my try-it-and-see attitude and the projects I share (some successes, and the occasional disaster) will inspire you to do the same!

I'd LOVE to hear from you! You can contact me at thesethingsaregoodthings@gmail.com :)

KITLIST:
  • I shoot my projects using my Nikon D3000, and most of the time I use the Nikkor 18-55mm lens that came with it. It's quite a basic DSLR designed for those fairly new to photography, but for now it's the perfect camera for me!
  • I have a very easy-to-manage sewing machine, a gift from my wonderful parents. It's a Brother X5. Again, it's a fairly no-frills product, but it works just fine for all my little projects.
  • In the kitchen, I use the Kenwood kMix hand whisk and kMix food processor. Both were gifts and both are considered completely indispensable in our kitchen, they are fantastically well-built and easy to use!
  • I use Photoshop Elements to edit my photos. When I'm working on projects in the evenings and the light isn't great, this simple and relatively affordable version of Photoshop is all I need to get my pictures looking good.
  • Pinterest is an obsession, providing me with endless sources of inspiration!
